His grandfather Tony Romano was a singer/guitarist who worked with Bob Hope and Frank Sinatra and his grandmother Pat Silver-Lasky was an actress, screenwriter and author.
Homeschooled, Alex began learning piano at 3 and by the age of 8 was teaching music theory classes on his father’s website. He also did stand-up comedy to introduce his father’s jazz gigs.
When his family moved to California in 2012, he studied acting at the Orange County School of Arts. At the same time, he formed the band Quartet 5, singing and playing keyboards on rock, jazz and soul classics, performing at venues such as the House of Blues and the Saban Theatre. He also performed jazz piano at Hollywood’s Catalina, at the age of 13, accompanied by members of the legendary Wrecking Crew.
Alex has acted in independent films such as Playing with Beethoven (Dir. Jenn Page), Proximity (Dir. Eric Demusey) and U R In Analysis (Dir. Mickey Gooch). He was chosen by legendary director Francis Ford Coppola to play the young lead in Distant Vision, a unique concept blending film, video and live theatre at USC. He graduated from AMDA College of the Performing Arts in Los Angeles in 2024.
In 2016 he played keyboards on his father’s album Bandzilla Rises!!!, performing with Randy Brecker. In 2018 he released Alex Plays Alex, his first album of his own contemporary jazz compositions, featuring many acclaimed artists, such as Martin Taylor, and award-winning singer Claire Martin.
He performs regularly with his own jazz trio and has become an in-demand sideman in Hollywood playing gospel, rock, soul, and pop. He performed on his father’s 2023 release “Niles Smiles”. Alex is also a member of the acclaimed new pop/soul band SMITTEN.
